State of MN DEED

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, also known as DEED, is a state agency that focuses on the economic success of people, businesses and communities. The agency has more than 50 programs and services, including workforce training programs, unemployment support, redevelopment loans and grants for small towns, export guidance and funding for business expansion projects.

Support for entrepreneurship is among the agency’s other areas of activity. DEED works closely with MN Cup – the country’s largest startup business competition – and the Minnesota High Tech Association. DEED’s statewide network of Small Business Development Centers offers free and confidential consulting to entrepreneurs, and the agency’s Angel Tax Credit Program has attracted more than $421 million in funding for Minnesota startups since its inception in 2010. A new program this year,Minnesota Innovation Loans for Entrepreneurs, or MILE, offers interest-free loans ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 to early-stage businesses that are developing high-tech products or services in Minnesota.
